The Heritage Club recognizes and honours those who have included the Boys and Girls Club of Strathcona County(SCBGC) in their estate plans through a number of methods, including bequests, life insurance, trust arrangements, or an outright gift.
The Heritage Club is a special group of friends who believe in the purpose and values of the Boys and Girls Club. They want to ensure a better tomorrow for our society's children, youth and families, especially those in need.
Heritage Club members plan their gifts to create endowment funds directly through SCBGC or through the Edmonton Community Foundation. Gifts to endowment funds are not spent. They are invested in perpetuity, and only a portion of the investment income is used to fund our programs each year.
Bequests
- In your will you can make a gift to SCBGC that may include personal property or real estate, a specific sum of money or a percentage of estate assests. If desired, your gift can be used for a designated purpose. (see sample 'will clauses')
Retirement Funds
- Retirement funds may be the most significant asset for many families. Individuals enrolled in an RRSP or an RRIF can make a charitable gift of all or a portion of any retirement funds remaining at death.
Life Insurance
- A relatively small commitment can translate to a significant endowment gift. A donor transfers ownership of an existing policy to the Boys and Girls Club of Strathcona County, or purchases a policy and makes the Strathcona Boys and Girls Club the owner and irrevocable beneficiary. You receive a charitable receipt for the cash surrender value of the policy, or the annual premiums paid on the policy. Upon death, all proceeds will pass directly to the SCBGC.
Residual Interest Trust
- You transfer property such as real estate, stamp collection or a work of art to SCBGC now, and retain a life interest in the property. You have the use and enjoyment of the property during your lifetime. You will receive a charitable tax receipt for the present value of the gift.
Direct Gifts
- A gift of cash or other assets will be recognized with an income tax receipt and will help build the endowment immediately.
Gifts That Give Back
- There are some gifts that provide a lifetime of income and a future to SCBGC. Gifts such as Annuities or Charitable Remainder Trusts are irrevocable and provide immediate tax benefits.
Personal Benefits
- Donors benefit from planned giving by becoming eligible for tax and estate planning advantages. Donors also benefit from knowing their gift will ensure the continued presence of the Boys and Girls Club of Strathcona County in our community helping build a better tomorrow for our children and families.
